Jewellery Manufacturing Process - H&M Designs Inc.

Designing

Jewellery must first be designed before any manufacturing can be done, each jewellery piece must be meticulously thought with much trial and error. One of the important factors in creating new designs is the source of inspiration.

Sketch Designing for Jewellery - H&M Designs Inc.

Creating new designs, realizing new forms, structures, products etc. It involves observation, recording and analysis of visual information which is gathered from anywhere and everywhere around us. This visual information obtained provides a starting point for designing. At H&M Designs we follow a set of steps before they can be manufactured into our masterpieces.

Computer Design

After the initial idea or sketch is developed, it’s time to start work on the digital model using CAD software, the 3D designer will make a digital render of your jewellery. This 3D image gives a complete and thorough view of each part of the final jewellery piece.

The CAD technology has given the jewellery designing industry a modern and revolutionary touch, which is apt for a word that prioritizes speed, precision and efficiency. Using CAD, you can transform your jewellery design ideas into 2D or 3D models by providing effects, textures, depth, colors etc.

Wax Model

From 3D CAD, an original wax Master Piece is created in a 3D Wax Printer. Thereafter, a rubber mold is prepare for every master piece, which is used to make replicas of each piece by injecting melted wax in the rubber model. After the temperature cool down the wax is removed from the model. There is a separate wax used for each metal type color & Karat.

Casting

After the tree setup is complete the liquid Investment (POP) is hovered over the wax tree. After the investment hardens the cylinder is placed inside the oven. The wax melts as desired metal is poured into the cylinder in the liquid form.

When the metal is cooled down the metal tree is taken out. In this process, hot melted gold replaces the was tree in its accurate design and takes the shape the desired jewellery piece. This process is faster and cost effective for bulk production in particular.

Assembly

The metal links are connected together after the piece has been assembled. It is measured to confirm that is the correct length & the number of stones is correctly based in order. Any locks needed are attached as well as any last minute fitting or touch up is done.

After the mount is completed, the jewellery is ready for stone setting. If the piece requires enameling work or additional design, this would take place before setting.

Stone Setting

For this step, the setter finally adds the diamonds or other gemstones onto your piece. He carefully sets the central stone into the mount. If side stones are involved, the setter needs to hand drill for these before setting. Using a microscope they then set each separate stone.

Polishing, Finishing & Quality Assurance

In the final stage, a polisher works to make sure the metal is polished to perfection so it’s as shiny as possible. Any final addition such as engravings are also applied. Finally, the jewellery is inspected and each detail is analyzed to make sure production was successful.

To bring out that in-erasable gloss and sparkle, your jewellery is placed in a rhodium bath for a few minutes. This plating also helps to protect your jewellery form daily wear. Quality checks are carried out again to ensure that the jewellery has been evenly plated.
